Catastrophe

About

Catastrophe is a game born out of our love for cats. A mysterious machine tries to save cats escaping from a volcanic eruption. Jam version consists of 3 levels. You can move up and down, catching cats and sending them to a "mysterious" pocket dimension (left to your imagination). In return, cats give us gold. Because they collected a bunch in their other lives.

Gameplay

The robot can move up & down and send its claw (or hook, or arm?) to grab cats. If they come too close to the robot, they get a rush effect and be pushed forward.

Cats we miss fall into the magma and cost us (and them) a life. If we drop to 0 lives, our robot will drop on the ground due to a system-wide deadlock it enters.

Cat colors are decorative. There are 4 types of cats. Normal, fast, smelly and shielded (because why not?). Sloppy cats stun us when we touch them. Shielded cats need 2 grabs to be caught (first one makes them run forward).

There are also 4 different power-ups. 3 of them are so rare, we didn't even see one during our testing. Cookies are the most common ones. They refill 1 life and if we are already at max, they reward us 1000 gold because they are now fortune cookies. Crystals grab all cats on screen. Robot arms will save a cat from magma and then disappear. Catnip makes all cats rush forward.

But wait, there's more. We also implemented a shop where you can buy a revive, a motor and a longer hook. Revive maxes our health just before we fail. Motor increases our move speed and longer hook is self-explanatory.

Known Bugs

• Sound settings do not work. Will be fixed in post-jam update.
• Stun sometimes disable our hook ability.

• Up arrow or W: Move up
• Down arrow or S: Move down
• Space: Shoot hook
